

Elmer was born February 28, 1941 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, to Anton and Edna (Pozorski) Shelbrock.
He graduated from Rhinelander Union High School in Rhinelander, Wisconsin in 1959. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Homestead Air Force Base in Homestead, Florida. Elmer served state-side in Florida and Texas and in Taiwan from 1960 through 1964. Upon honorable discharge from the Air Force, Elmer met Barbara (Chille) and they were married in 1967.
They established residence in Wind Lake, Wisconsin and had two children: daughter, Jill, and son, Todd. They later resettled to the town of Eagle, Wisconsin in 1981. In 1983, Elmer enlisted in the United States Air National Guard of Wisconsin and was stationed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with the 128th Air Refueling Group until his retirement from military service in 1998. Part of his mission with the 128th Air Refueling Group was in support of Operation Desert Storm. In 2006, Elmer married Karen (Vodnik) and they relocated to Brooksville, Florida after Elmer’s retirement from BNY Clearing.
Over the years, Elmer’s career spanned working in industries such as machinery, motors, painting and handyman services, and building maintenance. Elmer loved to work with his hands and could build or repair just about anything around the house. He spent most of his time in retirement doing what he loved to do most, which was tinkering in his home workshop. He was extremely proud to have served his country and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He also had other interests including traveling, history, astronomy, and playing golf.
Elmer was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Shelbrock (Pozorski); father, Anton Shelbrock; brothers, Chester Shelbrock and Felix Shelbrock; and sisters, Virginia Shelbrock and Connie Solom (Shelbrock); and brother-in-law Joseph Vodnik.
Elmer will be deeply missed by his wife, Karen; daughter, Jill Blazek (Wayne); son, Todd Schelbrock (Kathy); loving sister, Mary Mueller; loving brother, Donald Shelbrock (Diane); son-in-law, Gary Vodnik (Nicci); sister-in-law, Mary Ann Bagemehl (Glenn); sister-in-law, Patricia Stroik (Denis); brother-in-law, Anthony Vodnik (Yolanda); brother-in-law, Robert Vodnik; and sister-in-law, Jacqueline Sachse. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Services and final burial will be on Monday, August 28, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Florida National Cemetery, 6502 S.W. 102nd Ave, Bushnell, Florida, 33513. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
