

2021. Ernest was born in Farmingdale, NY on September 12, 1930. He was the son of the late
Lilian W. and Ernest M. Smith. Ernest was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1951.
After the Navy he met the love of his life Edith where they worked at Liberty Products and
married on October 3, 1953. They moved to West Islip and joined West Islip Volunteer Fire
Department as the last charter member needed to be recognized by New York State. Ernest
rose to the rank of Captain in the Vanguard Engine Company.
After retiring from the Farmingdale Public School System as a groundskeeper they moved to
Florida. He had a passion for wood working he especially liked making name trains for little
kids.
Sook is survived by his loving wife, Edith of 68 years, three sons – Scott and wife Doni Lynn,
Roger and wife Sue and Tracy and wife Ann. Five grandchildren – Amanda, Jessica, Dakota, Sean
and Dale. One great-grandson – Colby. Sook is also survived by one sister – Glyndeen Schiavoni
and husband John as well as many nieces and nephews. Also is predeceased by his sister
Thelma Wagner and grandson Cory.
Internment will take place at the Bushnell National Cemetery - Bushnell, Florida on
September 10,2021 with a small family service. A celebration of life will be held on
September 11, 2021 at his residence.
