He was born on March 19, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Harry Francis Staub and Eileen Yvonne Leach Staub.
Ken graduated high school in Hawaii and later earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama.
In 1966 Ken joined the United States Army, serving two tours in Vietnam, in 1968-69 and again in 1971-72, as a Huey helicopter pilot. During his service he was awarded several medals for bravery and valor, including the Purple Heart, earned the night his son was born. He rose through the ranks over twenty-three years of service, eventually reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and serving at the Pentagon before his retirement in 1989.
Ken married Mary Ann Kringle and together they made a life through his years of military service. She preceded him in death in 2004.
Following his military retirement, Ken worked as a consultant and contractor in the Washington, D.C. area. He had a lifelong passion for Jaguar automobiles, at one point owning a collection of five to six vehicles.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Robin Staub; his daughter-in-law, Wendy Elizabeth-Fleetwood Staub; his granddaughter, Kiera Leeann Staub; and his sister, Joy Ellen Swam.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Staub, and his parents. His remains will be kept alongside those of his wife and their beloved dog, Sully.
He lived by a simple creed. Today is a good day to die. Not as resignation, but as readiness. Every single day.
He asked to be remembered as a Soldier, Patriot, and American. His son would add one more word: Warrior.
Valhalla has a new pilot. And knowing Ken, he already found the flight line.
