

James “Jim” Lamar Leggett, age 82, of Brooksville, Florida passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024. Born in Savannah, Georgia, on June 6, 1942, he graduated from Robert W. Groves High School in Pooler, Georgia, after which he proudly served in the United States Air Force. After serving, he honed his carpentry, construction, and business skills paving the way to start Mastercraft Cabinets in 1975, then Leggett Custom Homes in 1981. For 43 years he enjoyed building custom homes in Hernando, Pasco, Citrus, and Hillsborough counties where he was known for his attention to detail, quality, and craftsmanship. He also enjoyed designing and drawing custom house plans and was the author of two fiction books.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lamar and Frankie Leggett of Townsend, Georgia, and his sister, Francis “Sissie” Cliatt Hartley of Pooler, Georgia. He is survived by his wife Jeralyn, his daughter Michelle Chytka (Darren), his son Royce Leggett (Dawn), 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Peanut.
He was a loving husband, father, and friend known for his selfless service to those around him, always stepping up to help family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues with wisdom in their times of need. He was well respected in the community, both personally and professionally, for his honesty, integrity, and kindness. He will be greatly missed by all.
He was a member of Community Bible Church, 5041 Griffin Rd., Brooksville, where a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Community Bible Church Building Fund, 5041 Griffin Rd, Brooksville, FL 34601.
The family will cherish any notes, photos, or sentiments expressing how Jim has touched the lives of those who knew him. There will be a basket to receive these at the Celebration of Life, or they can be sent to the family directly.
Interment will be at a later date at the Florida National Cemetery with military honors attended by family.
