Born on November 22, 1942, in Attleboro, Massachusetts, Jim was the cherished son of John C. Silva and Lucille C. Norwood. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Neil, and his son Robert, who he loved deeply.
Jim's life was defined by his unwavering dedication to family, his passion for service, and his zest for life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah L. Silva, with whom he shared 35 wonderful years of marriage after their union in Yarmouth, Maine, on May 12, 1990. Together, they built a life filled with laughter and love, embracing every moment with their children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his son, Michael J. Silva, and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth A. Torrant; his son, Christian J. Huggard, and daughter-in-law, Angie Huggard; and his two beloved grandchildren, Madi and Eli. Additionally, he leaves behind his nephew, Neill Silva, who held a special place in his heart.
Jim's educational journey began at Attleboro High School, where he laid the foundation for a life that would be marked by hard work and determination. He proudly served for eight years in the United States Air Force, a commitment that instilled in him the values of honor and duty.
In his professional life, Jim was a passionate home builder who eventually became the owner of his own lumber company in Waterboro, Maine. His entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by his commitment to his community. He volunteered for the Special Olympics of Maine and served as president of the National Association of Home Builders. His membership in the Maine American Legion further exemplified his dedication to service and community.
Jim was known not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his vibrant personality. He was a witty and funny man, known for his quick comebacks and sharp sense of humor. His caring and compassionate nature endeared him to everyone who crossed his path. He cherished the time spent with his family, especially during Christmas Eve celebrations, where laughter and joy filled the air. He had a deep passion for football and golf, and these interests brought him closer to friends and family alike.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice staff at HPH in Brooksville, Florida, for their compassionate care during Jim's final days. Their kindness and support made a significant difference in his journey.
