He was born on September 2, 1948, in Tampa, Florida.
Lanny was a proud combat veteran who served his country in the United States Army with the 25th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he dedicated 33 years of hard work and commitment to the United States Postal Service before retiring.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Barney Manicchia Sr. and Frances Manicchia, and his brother, Barney Manicchia Jr.
Lanny is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Emma Lena Manicchia; his son, Lanny Samuel Manicchia Jr.; his daughter, Malena Marie Chastain; and his son-in-law, Terry Chastain. He was a proud grandfather to Brittany Grace Chanpagne (married to Joshua Quandt), Brandy Michelle Hufnagel (married to Jesse Hufnagel), Ashley Elizabeth Champagne, and a cherished great-grandfather to Jaxen, Austin, Destin, Howl, and Archer.
Lanny was larger than life, known for his big heart, quick humor, and the ability to make friends wherever he went. He loved talking with people and never met a stranger. He took great pride in his military service and carried that pride throughout his life.
He enjoyed staying active and could often be found working out, caring for his plants, traveling, enjoying cars and sports, or even relaxing with a game on Xbox.
Above all else, Lanny loved his family deeply and cherished the time spent with them. He also loved the mountains and the peace they brought him.
A man of strong Catholic faith, Lanny found comfort in prayer, especially the Serenity Prayer and the Hail Mary.
A memorial service honoring Lanny’s life will be held at Turner Funeral Home and Florida Memorial Gardens, located at 14360 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, Florida 34609.
Military honors will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:30 PM, with a reception immediately afterward at Turner Funeral Home.
Lanny will be remembered as a strong, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose kindness, humor, and generous spirit touched everyone who knew him.
The family asks that in place of flowers, you donate to the VFW, American Legion, or Wounded Warriors in his name. Thank You.

Dad, you were my rock. You were the person I called for help with everything, and no matter what it was, you always showed up.
I am so proud of your military service and the man you were. People often say we are a lot alike, and that is one of the greatest compliments I could ever receive.
You loved all of us deeply, and we loved you right back just as much.
Dad, you were larger than life, and your memory will live in my heart forever.
You are profoundly missed.
I will carry you with me in everything I do and live my life in a way that would make you proud.
Love you always and forever, Malena

Tribute from Lanny Sr.'s son, Lanny Jr.
Dad. You were the strongest and boldest person I’ve ever known. If I can carry just a fraction of that forward, the world will be better for it.
I always knew that wherever I was in the world, whatever I was doing, you had my six. Thank you.
I will remain unapologetically myself, just like you taught me.
You gave me the strength I need. I’ll take it from here. See you again. I love you.
Tribute from Lanny Sr.'s Granddaughter, Brittany
Grandpa,
Thank you for the unconditional love you always gave me. Your kindness, wisdom, and steady presence shaped so much of who I am today.
I will carry the lessons you taught me in my heart for the rest of my life and do my best to live in a way that would make you proud.
I will miss you deeply, but your love will always stay with me.
Love always and forever, Brittany
Tribute from Lanny Sr.'s Granddaughter, Ashley
My Grandpa was a proud veteran, a loving grandfather, and a man whose strength and kindness touched everyone who knew him.
He served his country with honor and carried that same quiet strength into the way he loved and cared for his family.
In his quieter moments, he found joy in video games with his grandkids and great-grandkids, a hobby that brought laughter and connection with those he loved.
Though our hearts are heavy with his loss, we will forever hold onto the memories, the lessons, and the love he gave us. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
