Norma Jeane Palmer was born on March 2, 1939 on the island of Barbados, West Indies to Rosaline D. Taylor and Frank G. Thomas. She met her beloved husband Egbert E. Palmer in London, England and they were united in marriage on March 11, 1967. They migrated to the United States and settled in Brooklyn to raise their daughter Andrea. After retirement, they moved to Spring Hill, Florida. Norma began her formative education at Queens College in Barbados and then transferred to The Girls' High School in St. Vincent, West Indies. During her high school years, she was very active in sports, especially in the game of netball. She played on the school team and was a member of the St. Vincent National Netball Team. Norma received her nursing degree in England/Wales from Connaught Hospital and Medical Center and was a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Science from St. Francis College in 1977 and a Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration from Long Island University-CW Post in 1979. Norma loved nursing and her nursing career was one of distinction. She began her ascent as a Head Nurse at the Jewish Hospital and Medical Center of Brooklyn, on to Nursing Supervisor, to Assistant Director of Nursing, then to Associate Director of Nursing. She was then promoted from Clinical Director at Interfaith Medical Center (which was a merger with her old hospital) to Assistant Vice President of Emergency Services and ended her career at Interfaith as Vice President of Emergency Services. Norma ended her illustrious career working for the City of New York as a Deputy Director at Queens Hospital Center. Norma always took pride in her job, but she was also very proud of all the nurses who worked with and under her supervision. She loved being a mentor to younger nurses and many of them remained closely in touch with her, even after she retired. Norma enjoyed traveling and shared this passion with her husband, Egbert. She loved cooking and like her father, always showed her love and care for her loved ones by cooking for them. She enjoyed bowling, tennis, shopping, but most of all a good party, with great music and dancing. Norma is survived by her devoted and loving husband Egbert, her daughter Andrea, three sisters Alana, Allison and Sharon, three brothers Bernard, Kimeto and Glynn; her uncle Stanley Leon Taylor, numerous cousins, other relatives and cherished friends. Norma will be missed so much, but we know that she rests now peacefully, after a life well lived. We say goodbye, comforted by the knowledge that those we love never leave our hearts. May she always sleep in perfect peace. Visitation will be 7-9pm Wednesday, June 1, 2016. Funeral service will be 1pm Thursday, June 2, 2016, all located at Turner Funeral Home 14360 Spring Hill Dr., Spring Hill, Florida 34609. 352-796-9661
