

Phyllis Jean Spalla, of Spring Hill, Florida died January 24, 2025, at the age of 82. She had many names and terms of endearment from friends and family. She was known as PJ to her friends, Mom to her daughter, Nonnie to her grandchildren, Sis to her older sister, niece and nephews, Phyl to her younger sister and cousins, and Mommie to her pups.
PJ was a cook extraordinaire, an expert gardener, swimmer, fashionista, avid reader, consumer of foreign movies and all music genres, community volunteer, and a committed fan of Indiana University basketball and the Chicago Bears. PJ was a loyal friend to all that knew and loved her. She was adored by her family and pups and will be forever missed.
PJ was born in Monterrey Park, California on May 26, 1942, to Vivian Tichenor Raisor and Robert Paul Raisor. She lived in Clarksville, Indiana during her formative years and graduated from Clarksville High School in 1960. PJ lived most of her adult life in Chicago’s northwest suburbs. She moved to Spring Hill, Florida with her younger sister in 2012 to be near her older sister and brother-in-law. She attained numerous specialized educational certifications as she sought professional advancement. She was an investment analyst at Hearthstone, at the Palatine, Illinois office, for many years until her retirement in 2008.
PJ was proceeded in death by her husband James Spalla of Palatine, Illinois, her mother Vivian Tichenor Raisor of Coppell, Texas, her grandparents Travis W. Tichenor Sr. and Viola Sparks Tichenor of Clarksville, Indiana, her uncle and aunt Dr. Travis W. Tichenor Jr. and Margaret Ann Eastman Tichenor of Clarksville, Indiana, and her fur babies:
Petit Four, Rachel, Samantha, Maxine, and Kasi.
PJ is survived by her only daughter Shelli Simon (Dan Shumate) of Louisville Kentucky; sisters Madonna Kaster and Trava Raisor of Spring Hill, Florida; three grandchildren Kristi Lindley (Brian) of Charlestown, Indiana, grandsons Matthew Simon and Jordan Simon of Louisville, Kentucky; three great grandchildren-- great granddaughter Kylie Dean of Charlestown, Indiana, and great grandsons Isaiah Simon and Noah Simon of Louisville, Kentucky; niece Tracy Gales and nephew and Phillip Kaster of Clarksville, Indiana and nephew Joseph Edward Kaster (Michelle) Jeffersonville, Indiana. PJ is also survived by several grand and great nieces and nephews, four cousins, and her precious
pups Makala, Madison, and Aria.
