Ralph Cyril Guyadeen, age 93, passed away on May 5, 2021 in Spring Hill, Florida from complications associated with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). He was born on November 23, 1927 to his parents, Joseph Guyadeen and Samdaye “Baby” Kalloo, in Caroni on the island of Trinidad and Tobago. Ralph was one of ten children and the oldest surviving sibling before his death. He graduated in 1945 from Debe Orsman High School, Trinidad. While working at Port Services Department in Trinidad, he decided to go to New York and attend Boro Hall Academy in Brooklyn with the intent of becoming a dentist in 1952. Like many students, he worked after school as a waiter for Lundy Brothers Restaurant in Brooklyn. After work one day, he went to a fashion show and met the love of his life, Margaret J. Yearwood. They married in 1953 and later had two children, Ronald and Raquel.
He joined the United States Army and served from 1955 to 1957. Since he loved to travel, he decided to make the military a career and joined the United States Air Force, serving from 1958 until 1978. He had a desire to see the world and the Air Force would afford him that opportunity. In his 22-year military career, he was stationed in Hawaii, Washington state, Montana, Oklahoma, Texas, Canada and Spain. He also did six-month deployments in Southeast Asia (Thailand, Korea, Okinawa and Guam). He spent the better part of his military career with three tours in Spain. He loved the lifestyle of the Spanish people. He learned the language and lived in Spain even after he retired from the military. Before he decided to make Florida his home, he worked in Turkey and Saudi Arabia. While his children live in California, he preferred the lifestyle of Florida and had lived there for almost 30 years. He enjoyed a good golf game, a good meal with friends and family, and was always up for a party.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret, who he took care of after she was diagnosed with dementia. He is also survived by his two brothers, Kenneth Guyadeen and Errol Guayadeen; his two children, Ronald Guyadeen and wife Stephanie Rudy of Lancaster, California and Raquel Guyadeen Maloof and husband Zurvohn of Hayward, California; his two grandchildren, Zurvohn II and Zaria Maloof; and many nieces and nephews in the U.S., Canada, England and Trinidad and Tobago. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Samdaye (Kalloo); sisters, Jane Kowlessar, Pearl Ramsawak, Enid Ganess, Sylvia George and Doris Khan; and brothers Hubert Guyadeen and Cecil Guyadeen.
