He was born in Rochester, New York on August 29, 1924. Roger graduated from Catholic Central High School in Chillicothe, Ohio. He attended the University of Dayton, studying Chemical Engineering when Uncle Sam called in 1942. He served in the Army in WWII in the Army’s 84th Field Hospital. He saw action in Europe as part of the invasion force that entered Germany and ended the war.
After the war, he was married to Ruth E. Kelly on September, 16, 1946. Roger and Ruth enjoyed 72 years of marriage and six children. Ruth preceded Roger in death on January 21, 2019.
Roger had a career at U.S. Shoe Corporation for nearly forty years. He worked his way up to an industrial engineering management position. He worked in Chillicothe, OH, Madison, IN and the corporate headquarters in Cincinnati. Roger was the second of three generations of Kelly’s that all worked for the same company.
Roger enjoyed tennis and bowling in his younger years. Recently he was an avid follower of the stock market, and watched seasonal sporting events. College basketball was a favorite. He is survived by Patrick (Patricia) Kelly, Stephen (Patricia) Kelly, Judy (Ted) Canfield, James (Nancy) Kelly, Thomas (MaryAnn) Kelly, and Theresa (Bruce) Wiesner, fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2PM Saturday, June 6th at Turner Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow to Florida Hills Memorial Gardens in Spring Hill.
