Sheila M. Pietras, " The Hat Lady" of Spring Hill, Florida, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018 on her 90th birthday. She was born in The Bronx, New York, was adopted and raised by Patrick and Anne Mulcahy. She married her husband Lou in 1950, and together raised their family on Long Island. She and Lou retired and moved to Florida in 1981. They were married for 50 years when Lou passed away in 2000. In Florida Sheila was an active member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church of Spring Hill.
Sheila is survived by her sons Michael L. Pietras (Mary Ann); Stephen V. Pietras (Judy); Christopher R. Pietras (Claudia Lupoletti); and Gregory M. Pietras. Sheila was the doting grandmother of eight: Damon (Heidi), Christina, Scott, Michael, Katie, Abby, Darrion (Charlotte), and Nick, and a loving great-grandmother to five great grandchildren Bella, Auron, Adler, Raegan, and Ryder. Adopted at a very young age and raised as an only child, she recently discovered several siblings and many nieces and nephews, extending her family even further. She will be missed by her loving family and many friends.
Sheila is best known for her talent for accessorizing. She is known about the Spring Hill area as “The Hat Lady”, donning a themed hat for every occasion. The hats and her visits to patients in area hospitals brought her much joy.
Visitation will be 9:30- 11:00AM Saturday, December 1st at Turner Funeral Home (Spring Hill Drive) in Spring Hill, Florida. Funeral service 11:30AM, Saturday, December 1st at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Spring Hill (Mariner Blvd), followed by burial at Florida Hills Memorial Gardens off Spring Hill Drive.
