Walter Paul Tonnies

He was born in Flushing, New York on January 2, 1932. Walter attended Hofstra and Columbia universities.

He and Patricia Jane Ruth were married on June 20, 1959 and celebrated their 61st anniversary last year.

After serving in the US Navy during the Korean War, Walter joined Sperry Rand as an electronics technician in 1956 at Roosevelt Field, NY which is where he met Patricia. Walter had a long and successful career with Sperry Rand for 30 years retiring as a program manager from Hercules Defense in 1987.

His passions included animals (of all sorts), woodworking, audio, the outdoors and antique timepieces.

He was a devoted husband and loving father and is survived by his wife, Patricia, his children Robert Tonnies (spouse Jamie), William Tonnies and Laura Novotny (spouse Jeff), and his grandchildren Jackson Tonnies, Nicholas Novotny, Kiernan Tonnies, Amara Novotny and Jenna Novotny.

Memorial arrangements are yet to be determined.
