On the morning of August 29, 2018, Wilma, of Spring Hill, FL. passed away at Regional Medical Center – Bayonet Point in Hudson, FL, from injuries received in an automobile accident. Wilma was 93 years old.
Wilma was born on July 13, 1925 in Cumberland, KY to the late Jason and Margaret Gilliam Jackson. She was married to the late Ira Howard Sturgill.
In her earlier years, Wilma worked for Scott’s Department Store and Dewey’s Hardware in Cumberland, Ky. She moved from Cumberland in 1957 and with her husband, started The LP Gas Company in Clearwater, FL until 1972. She also set up the bookkeeping system for Tarpon Electric in Safety Harbor, FL. Wilma also handled the bookkeeping for her son, David Sturgill and Harry Timmons Realty in Brooksville, FL.
After retiring, Wilma and Howard traveled in their motor home across the United States. She loved traveling and camping. She loved gardening. She loved studying her Bible and she loved the LORD.
Wilma was an active member of Northcliffe Baptist Church. She volunteered in the office two days per week for 6 years and continued serving as a greeter on Sunday mornings where she gave welcoming handshakes and warm hugs to everyone she met.
Besides her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her late husband, Howard, two sons, David Howard and Timothy Alan, four sisters, Edna Scott, Verna Johnson, Vera Overby and Lena Hill and three brothers, Archie, Paul and Jason Jackson plus a host of family and friends.
Wilma is survived, and will be missed by, daughter-in-law Nancy and husband, William O. Self, of Land O Lakes, FL. Granddaughter Michelle Sturgill, Land O Lakes, FL. Grandson, Jason Sturgill and wife Shay of Cameron, N.C. and Great Grandchildren, Isabelle Sturgill; Emily, Kayleigh and Earon Terlouw all of Cameron, N.C., sisters-in-law, Kathryn Lewis of Warrenton, MO and Peggy Sturgill, of Ocean Springs, MS, heart-adopted son, Jay Archbell and wife, Michelle, of Spring Hill, FL. and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews along with many family and friends.
The family will receive family and friends at Turner Funeral Home, 14360 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, FL 34609 on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Northcliffe Baptist Church, 10515 Northcliffe Blvd, Spring Hill, FL 34608 on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with an hour viewing before the service. Pastors Jerry Waugh and Fran Welch officiating.
Interment will be at the Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave. in Bushnell, FL 33513 at 1:30 p.m.
