
Harris Levine, lifelong resident of Suffern, New York, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018, peacefully at home, with his family by his side. Born June 26, 1923, in Newburgh, New York. Harris was predeceased by his loving wife, Ethel Amster Levine. Harris is survived by his sons, Jack and Norman; sister, Loretta (husband Maurice Solomon); nephew, Dr. Ira Solomon (wife Sherry); niece, Susan (husband Dr. Alan Wachter); grandnieces, Marissa, Taylor, Amanda, Gabrielle, Michelline and Brittany; grandnephew, Scott; and sisters in law, Lucille Amster and Ruth Amster.
Mr. Levine was laid to rest on Sunday, May 27, 2018, Congregation Sons of Israel Cemetery, Brick Church Road & Route 306, New Hempstead, New York.
Harris proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. from 1942 to 1946, in the Pacific theater of Operation Solomon Islands, in such battles as Guadalcanal and Peleliu. Upon discharge, Harris enrolled in pharmacy school at Columbia University in New York City. When he graduated, he went into the family pharmacy which was started by his father, Sam, in 1922, and continued running the pharmacy for several years until it was sold. After the sale of the pharmacy, he became the Director of Pharmacy for the Yeager Health Center of Rockland County, New York.
Mr. Levine served as president of the Rockland County Pharmaceutical Society, from 1964 to 1966. He also served as a trustee in the Village of Suffern, from 1986 to 1990.
