Jimmy loved eating out. This was the last time I had dinner with my brother in the summer of 2019  8 months prior to his passing from Covid. It is still hard to think how tragic this was and the many more people who have lost loved ones from this terrible virus.

Jimmy will be deeply missed. He holds a special place in my heart. I was honored to get to know such a loving, beautiful person with so much light. Jimmy was always smiling and happy. I used to tutor Jimmy at the library and he enjoyed looking at the DVDs in the library sale. Thank you Barbara for giving me this great opportunity to work with Jimmy and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. xoxo

Jimmy lived at Svahn IRA for many years and was of the last 2 of the men that remained at Svahn since the house first opened in the early 1980's. Svahn was Jimmy's home and life. Jimmy always cherished his home and his family. Jimmy had a wonderful life surrounded by his mom and dad, who then passed on, his 3 beautiful sisters, other family members and all the staff and peers at Svahn. Being raised by his parents with strong religious values with faith in God, Jimmy carried his love for God all the days of his life.  As an individual of who Jimmy was in his life, he was a person of so many special qualities. Jimmy was full of life, passion and energy. He was bright and intelligent and always showed this in so many ways. He was loving and caring of all the people in his life. He loved going out in the community and being around others. He loved sharing his experiences among his family and friends. There was never a time Jimmy made a purchase in a store without thinking of buying something for his peers and staff. Jimmy had a strong interest and passion for technology.  He was always up to date the latest phone, computers Ipads and more.   Jimmy also had a strong work ethic and amazing ability to think and problem solve. He was always helpful to me in problem solving issues at work.  Jimmy also valued the jobs he had over the years including the work enclave at Pathmark Supermarket and the work center at ARC. Upon the work center closing,  Jimmy found other ways of being productive by collecting cans in exchange for money and helping out with the weekly food shopping at ShopRite. He then also developed interest in the Seniors program by engaging in activities and outings of interest. Although Jimmy's physical presence will no longer remain at Svahn, his spirit will not only move on to eternal life, but will also shine upon Svahn. Jimmy will always be truly missed and loved. I started working at Svahn Drive in 2006 there I had the pleasure to work in the house where James lived. James was a very caring, giving and loving individual. He often worried about other individuals that share the house with him, as well as the staff. He will be missed in a way that words can’t describe. Heaven will be receiving another angel, watch out the best chicken dancer ever James Mangano.

Jimmy always loved receiving presents. Recently when we were speaking on the phone on one of our weekly phone calls Jimmy was making a list of all the presents he wanted me to send him. I became a little annoyed and reminded him of all the presents he already had.  I posed the question , “Hey Jimmy , What’s the most important gift you need?” There was a long pause and then the answer came. “Love”.   To everyone who ever gave my wonderful brother a present/ presents .....the greatest gift you gave him was  your love. R I P , brother.
