Joan Blum, 84, of New City, NY, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023, surrounded by her loving children Stephen Blum, Jennifer Miller and Susie Blum. In addition to her children, Joan leaves behind six grandchildren (Kaitlyn, Kevin, Macey, Jonah, Ivy and Julia), two son in-laws (Adam Miller and Andy Flesch) as well as her remaining sister, three brothers, sister-in-law, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear family members. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ivan Blum, who she married in 1972 and who passed away in 1976.
Joan was born on February 6, 1939 in Kingston, Jamaica. She was the daughter of the late Winnifred and Allan Hunter. She moved to the United States in her 20s and worked as a bookkeeper, eventually retiring as a senior account clerk for the Village of Spring Valley, New York. Before leaving Jamaica for the U.S., Joan competed in the Miss Jamaica beauty pageant.
Joan loved nothing more than being with her family, particularly her children, grandchildren and her sisters, and always looked forward to Sunday family dinner. She was a great chef, and loved making pancakes for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed going to the theatre in New York City, dancing, listening to music, playing cards with her friends, and cheering for the New York Mets.
Funeral services will take place July 26th, 2023, 9:00AM at Hellman Memorial Chapels, 15 State Street, Spring Valley, NY 10977
