Leonard Harry Feldberg passed peacefully at his home in Chestnut Ridge, New York, on Friday, March 8, 2024, in the company of his adoring wife and his children, at the age of 90. Leonard, fondly known as Len, was born to Samuel and Esther Feldberg, on April 29, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York. He was a talented athlete who loved playing basketball and played throughout Europe with the Army during his military service from 1953 to 1955. He played handball with friends until he was well in his eighties. After leaving the Army, he married Shirlee, received a degree in mechanical engineering from City College in NYC and embarked on a career that took him from working as a draftsman to Vice President of Research and Development at Burndy Corporation, in Norwalk Connecticut, where he received more than 30 patents. He was most proud of his patent for the design of zip ties.
He settled his family in Spring Valley (Chestnut Ridge), New York in 1962, where he remained with his second wife of nearly twenty years, Thomasina Colacchio, until his passing. He was a talented, dedicated woodworker who was a much-respected member of the Hudson Valley Woodturners Association. His love for woodworking began as child pulling apart fruit crates to salvage wood and nails for his projects. His work shop was his sanctuary.
He is survived by his wife Thomasina Colacchio; children, Steven Feldberg (his wife Desiree), Elissa Moskowitz (her husband David), and Matthew Feldberg (his wife Patricia); his grandchildren Alexander Feldberg, Joshua Feldberg, Rachel Feldberg, Hayley Moskowitz, and Corry Moskowitz; and his great-grandchildren, Ari and Levi Feldberg. He was pre-deceased by his former wife Shirlee Feldberg, his brother William Feldberg, his sister Clara Elias, and his grandson Jordan William Feldberg.
