What can be said in adequate remembrance of our open handed, funny and extremely bright friend?

I'd hear a tapping @ my back door - Daniel managed to show up with his Epiphone Texan every time I cooked Pork Chops.  The man loved playing music and his pig.

We met @ Battelle NW in Seattle via my then wife and found a friendship fortuitously transcending that marriage. Round same time I lived scant 5 minutes walk from WA Arboretum Gatehouse which Daniel care-took during his UW tenure. The position involved nightly securing of Japanese Tea Garden. We would meet up, jam, stroll across street @ 9PM, lock the garden gate, return to Gatehouse and jam till wee hours. Played together @ Folklife Festival and gigged around in an R&B Blues combo "Little Rain" w/ Jack Cook, Thomas Heywood and host of other local blues hounds -to name a few- John Nelson, Keith Keller, Joe Breskin, Baby Gramps and Issac Scott. A treat!  Daniel was a great player/singer/harmonicist with encyclopedic knowledge of not only Blues but early Rock n Roll.  As a Rocker I was always blown away by how many 60's favourites he could pull out of his hat.  Seldom met when music didn't happen...

Yes_ Doctor Daniel made quite a splash out West in '70's Seattle. The BEST of times left an indelible impression on many here. Surplus shopping, cruising round in his old Volvo, eating DiM Sum @ King Cafe were but a few entertaining pursuits. Mostly we played. I learned so much from the guy - 50 years gone, I'm still digesting it all.

My only regret?
Will have to postpone picking/harmonizing Byrd's 5D again until we meet in the next world.

Daniel was the kindest soul. We did the greatest work together.

I met Daniel thru a friend in the very early 90's. I needed a place to crash and he put me up in his apartment on E 92 or 93rd between 2nd and 3rd that he had with Elaine. After learning that I was a piano player he suggested I come rent a small room at the Pearl River house so I would have a place to practice. My life changed after that.
Daniel turned me on the all the great old blues and boogie players. Meade Lux lewis, Otis Spann ( ya got a right hand AND a left hand), Pinetop Perkins and so many more. He dug up old sheet music transcriptions of some of the classics for me to study and after the day was over would invite me up to his office where he would share his amazing collection of records while carefully explaining the significance of each recording and how this artist led to the next and all the groups that covered, paid tribute to or in too many cases just ripped off a particular artist. Daniel had an encyclopedic knowledge of blues music !! I was there during part of a very active "Modern Blues Recordings" era. He let me listen to some of the raw "rockn 88's " sessions with Johnny Johnson who he introduced me to. (Johnny used to  call me "star" haha!, probably called everybody that).  Later on my friend Randy and I rented the little apartment up the stairs and to the right. When it was time for us to to move on, Randy gave Rocky to Daniel to help keep him company. Years later Daniel put up my son Gabriel for a bit when Gabe was exploring the east coast. Daniel was unbelievably funny, and caring, and kind and so talented, his shows at The turning Point in Piermont were wonderful . Daniel changed the course of my life ... I will miss everything about about him .... 

We have known Daniel for the past 21 years. I only knew him as Daniel. My name is mark. Daniel would call and sing happy birthday to me every year on July 20 th. And I would sing to him the next day.  I am a local chef who has been cooking for him for the past 21 years. During Covid I would deliver food to him so he could stay safe at home.  Daniel I will miss you a lot. I will sing to you on your birthdays. I would love to here from Daniels sister. As I wasn’t aware of his passing until 7/25/21.  

Daniel has been my neighbor for the past 25 years.  He was the best neighbor anyone could ask for.  We often talked and laughed on my front porch.  He watched my four children grow up and always had a funny memory to share with me.  He used to walk over with his bird Rocky on his shoulder for us to enjoy.  He loved to comment on any old treasures I might have found and would say, "that's got some age on it".  He called me a harbinger of Spring when he saw me spray painting something red.  He was bright, funny and always had a kind word for everyone.  I will truly miss seeing him across the street and will cherish the memories I have of being his neighbor and friend.

What can you say about this gentle , kind man , only that he will be greatly missed by all who new him.
We always talked music, Redbone. Davis, King , jazz that was a given. 
DanielJ asked if he could  play his guitar at our daughters wedding as a gift to  her. This is the beautiful person that  he was.

DANIEL JACOUBOVITCH - I want to wish you your very first Happy  Birthday in Heaven  -  Today is Wednesday July 21st 2021 - and your 72nd birthday anniversary - You past away just 4 days shy of it this last Saturday July 17th -   I am very happy that we knew each other in our lifetimes here on earth   and I want to thank you for all the times that I stayed at your house over there in Pearl River , New York - after a gig when I was too tired to drive home  - and the free rent spare room that you let me have for over  6 months - as well as the Christmas I spent with your mom when you had a dinner party at friends in N.Y.C. that year  - love from your pal forever  Joe Nania  a.k.a. Hello my dear friend DANIEL JACOUBOVITCH up there in Heaven - I am happy that we were friends in our lifetimes here on earth - and I want to thank you for the many times I stayed over your house - especially after a show when I was too tired to drive home - as well as the 6 month free rent you gave me with the spare room - I will also  remember spending one Christmas with your mom when you had a dinner date with your friends in N.Y.C. that year - God Bless you - love from your pal forever , Joe Nania a.k.a. My deepest condolences to Daniel's family.  I am so sorry to hear of his passing. My late husband, David Haller, and I met Daniel in Copenhagen, Denmark around 1977. We became good friends and he and David loved playing music together. They even went "on tour" to the west coast of Denmark that winter, with Daniel billing himself as Daniel Washington.  Daniel was funny, charming, a great musician and very good company. We visited Daniel in Pearl River a few times after we returned to the US in the 80s, but then lost touch for a while. We found each other on Facebook a few years back and enjoyed keeping up with him. I will always remember Daniel fondly as a sweet and funny friend. Perhaps Daniel and David are now playing the blues in the heavenly choir.  Dusty Haller

I was so deeply saddened to hear of Daniel's passing. We'd known each other for decades and had played guitar together once in a while. My deepest condolences to his family and many friends. Fair winds and following seas, old friend....

I’m so sorry to hear about Marc.  He was a classmate of mine in 6th grade in the old Pearl River High School.
