

Marilyn “Lyn” Mae Borek (nee Elson), 70, passed away surrounded by her loving family on October 18, 2015 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Lyn was born in Brooklyn, NY to Jesse and Thelma Elson and grew up in Pearl River, NY. She graduated from Pearl River High School and Rockland Community College, then worked at Lederle, , where she met her husband John Borek, and had 2 wonderful daughters, Alyssa and Heather. After her daughters began school, Lyn worked for Rockland After School Programs, where she was a teacher for about 25 years, then transitioned to a volunteer coordinator for Holy Name Hospital Hospice until her death.
Lyn had a lifelong love of nature, environmental conservation, and animals, cherishing her various cats and grandkitties. She enjoyed music, including attending Woodstock and being involved in drumming circles. She made many friends from all stages in her life, and once you became her friend, the friendship was often life-long.
Lyn was predeceased by her parents, sister Susan VonOhlen, and Aunt Doris Pilof. She is survived by her daughters Alyssa Borek and Heather Borek, her ex-husband John, and her adopted extended family: Mara Cohen-Borek, Lynn Cohen, Jessica and Jose Restrepo, and Doug and Beth Cohen.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, 1:00 PM at Hellman Memorial Chapels, Spring Valley, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Clearwater.org or Villa Marie Claire Hospice, where she died in the hands of her loving work family.
