He was born in Pelham Parkway (the Bronx) to Rose and Benjamin Hirsh. Morty studied business at City College but his education was interrupted when he enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War. Because of his mechanical abilities, he was assigned to be an electronics technician, stationed at first in the U.S. and later, in French Morocco, earning the rank of Airman First Class. Four years later, he continued his studies back home at Long Island University. Morty spent most of his career as a salesperson for Nature's Bounty, selling vitamins to drug stores across the tri-state area. But, he was most proud of his 50+ years of service with the Knights of Pythias organization, where he held the position of Grand Chancellor of the State of New York and Supreme Representative of the national organization. He dedicated his life to their charity and community service work. His other passions included photography, sports and most importantly, his family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted husband to Barbara, father to David and Stephanie, grandfather to Benjamin, Emily, Sydney and Ally, uncle to Jessica, and father-in-law to Howard and Liz. He is also survived by his brother, Lester.
With his charming personality and gregarious nature, Morty will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday September 5, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Hellman Memorial Chapels 15 State Street, Spring Valley, NY 10977. Interment will follow at Gates of Zion Cemetery 670 Saddle River Road, Airmont, NY 10952. Memorial contributions may be made to Caring Kind (the Heart of Alzheimer's Caregiving) or The Knights of Pythias Humanitarian Fund
