

Seymour Alter, of Thiells, NY, passed away on August 4, 2023 at 88 years of age. Seymour was born in 1935 to Sam and Lillian Alter and grew up in Brooklyn, NY. After graduating from James Madison High School, he proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War. He frequently spoke about his time stationed in Northern Maine and El Paso, Texas. After his discharge from the army, Seymour attended Hunter College, where he met his future wife, Sandra. Together, they raised four daughters. Seymour graduated from Pace University and earned his Masters Degree at NYU. He began his career as a buyer for Montgomery Ward, spending many years as Purchasing Supervisor for the White Plains City School District. Seymour worked as School Business Administrator for various public schools and colleges and was Adjunct Professor at Rockland Community College. He served as Youth Activities Director and held many leadership positions for both secular and religious institutions, the Jewish War Veterans, and the Association of School Business Officials. He later enjoyed working as a substitute teacher, where he had a positive influence on students of all ages for over two decades. Seymour is survived by his four loving and devoted daughters: Valerie (Marc), Anne-Renee (Steve), Tracey, and Elisabeth (Gary), and was the proud grandpa to his five grandchildren: Jeffrey, Amy, Jacob, Ilana, and Justin. He is also survived by his domestic partner, Rita Glass. Seymour was predeceased by his wife, Sandra, and his older brother, Morton.
Funeral services will be held Sunday August 6, 2023, 10:45 AM at New City Jewish Center 47 Old Schoolhouse Road, New City, NY 10956. Interment will follow at Mount Eden Cemetery 20 Commerce Street, Hawthorne, NY 10532.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Alter's memory should be made to the Jewish War Veterans or the American Cancer Society.
