Sylvia was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Julius Rein, with whom she shared a loving marriage that began in 1962. Together, they built a warm and devoted home in Spring Valley, where they raised their family.
She was a caring and dedicated mother to Jay Rein (Amy), Susan Levy (the late Brett), Sheryl Rein, and Rachel Rein-Denmark. Sylvia was a doting and proud grandmother to Dr. Lauren, Marni, Sydney, Julian, Ariella, Ben, and Peri, each of whom brought her immense joy.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Sylvia pursued her passion for helping others by attending Johns Hopkins Nursing School in Baltimore, Maryland. She devoted her life to nursing, a profession that reflected her compassion and strength. It was during her early years as a nurse at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital that she met the love of her life, Dr. Julius Rein, in 1960.
Sylvia embraced life with energy and curiosity. She loved sailing, traveling, and taking cruises, often exploring the world alongside her husband, who was a private pilot. Whether near or far, she was always ready for the next adventure.
Her hobbies brought joy not only to herself but to those around her. Sylvia lovingly knitted yarmulkes for her children’s Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, and she enjoyed knitting, reading, and photography. She had a special talent for capturing moments and preserving memories.
Sylvia was a founding member of the Monsey Jewish Center and remained deeply involved in the local Jewish community in Rockland County throughout her life.
Above all, Sylvia’s greatest happiness came from her family. She took immense pride in watching her children and grandchildren grow, thrive, and find joy in their lives, always cherishing every moment spent together.
She will be remembered for her warmth, strength, and unwavering love, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Memorial contributions in Sylvia’s honor may be made to the North Shore Animal League of America.
