Alan "Clint" Irwin

Alan "Clint" Irwin, 67, of Springfield, passed away at 7:26 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his family. Al was born November 4, 1947 in Springfield, the son of Harry and Marcella (Chiles) Irwin. He married Nancy Holzaepfel on March 7, 1971; she preceded him in death in 1977. He then married Susan Williams on December 30, 1988 in Springfield. Al served in the United States Navy from 1964-1968 during Vietnam. After the military, he was a stuntman/model in Arizona, where he earned the name Clint, and later became a boat mechanic for Schaefer's Marina. He was the owner/operator of Irwin Transport Company until 2005. Al was known for being strong willed, witty, and opinionated. Al never met a stranger and always conducted business over coffee. He loved helping people, riding his Harley, loved animals, shooting at the range, traveling, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a respected member of Sidden's Gun Range. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bruce Irwin; and one sister, Jane Fletcher. Al is survived by his children, Jeff Irwin (fiance, Kristi), Alex Irwin, Josey Irwin, and their mother, Susan Irwin, all of Springfield; two grandchildren, Parker James Irwin and Bryce Turner; two siblings, Connie Rains of Petersburg and Eric (wife, Helen) Irwin of Salem, IL; several nieces and nephews including Cyndi (husband, Robert) Grant, Stasi (husband, Mike) Loeffler; and great-niece and great-nephew, Michaela and Johnathon. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Gifford officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
