
Alan L. Jones, 56, of Springfield, passed away at 7:44 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. Alan was born on July 24, 1960 in Chicago, the son of Alan Charles and Georgia Lee Machasick Jones. He married Barbara E. Jastrzebski on November 29, 1980 in Springfield. Alan was a 1977 graduate of Irving Crown High School in Carpentersville, IL. He served his country in the Marine Corps and was employed with the Springfield Police Department as a police sergeant for over 22 years. During this time, he was awarded the Porter Williams Medal for saving another officers life. He also owned and operated GNC stores with his family and worked for Ks Merchandise for 10 years. Alan was a first degree Mason and a loving and wonderful father, husband, grandpa, and brother. He enjoyed spending time with his family and being outdoors fishing, camping, going to the zoo, and visiting the beach. Alan also enjoyed watching his favorite Chicago sports teams including the Bears, White Sox, and Cubs. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jones; three children, Jennie (husband, Dave) Helfrich, David Jones, and Matt (wife, Kat) Jones; six grandchildren, Jaidyn, Noah, Haley, Luke, Liam, and Olivia; three siblings, Brandie (husband, Rick) Joplin, Mark Jones, and Casey (wife, Jacqui) Jones; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a Masonic Ceremony and a walk through by the Springfield Police Department. Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2017 at Christ Episcopal Church, 611 East Jackson St., Springfield with Rev. Dr. Gregory A. Tournoux officiating.
