Alberta Hines

Alberta "Bert" Hines, 85, of Springfield, died at 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at St. John's Hospice. Bert was born January 8, 1924 in Springfield, the daughter of George and Louise Walters Schmidt. She married Lowell Hines on October 11, 1946. She graduated from Springfield High School. A young Bert worked at Illinois Bell and then Marine Bank. After marrying Lowell, she stayed home to raise the family. Eventually she went back to work as the office manager for her father's business, Great Northern Equipment Company in Springfield. In 1980 Bert began working at the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts where she retired in 1992. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing, knitting and playing bridge. Bert is preceded in death by her parents and a sister. Dorothy Eileen Maurer. She is survived by her husband, Lowell; a son, Barry (wife, Linda) Hines of Springfield; a daughter, Mary Rowe (husband, Steve) Hutsch of Murphysboro; four grandchildren, Brett Hines of Springfield, Blake Hines of Denver, CO, Heather Hines of Nashville, TN and Chelsea Rowe of Des Plaines. Visitation will be held from 5:00 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 5, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home. Burial will be in Farmington Cemetery.
