

Allen Patrick Henderson, 77, of Springfield, died at 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at St. Joseph's Home. Allen was born June 2, 1936 in Alton, the son of Rudolph H. and Bernice A. Stahl Henderson. He married Louise Narup on June 10, 1961 in Alton. Allen was a graduate of Marquette High School in Alton and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Tennessee Technological University. In 1976, he founded Allen Henderson and Associates. Allen was a board member of St. Joseph's Home and a dedicated supporter of Ursuline Academy. He was a kind hearted and gentle person who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Allen was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed playing cards, golfing, and fishing with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James E. Henderson; and infant twin brother, Alvin S. Henderson. He is survived by his wife, Louise "Lou Ann" Henderson of Springfield; six children, Maria Ann (husband, Peter) Bitzer of Manchester, MO, Julie Marie DeMatteo of Western Springs, Mary Jennifer Henderson of Chicago, Mark Allen (wife, Beth) Henderson of Springfield, Matthew James Henderson, and Paul Kevin (deceased wife, Angie Ley-Henderson) Henderson, both of Chicago; ten grandchildren, Allen and Karl Bitzer, Katie, Anne Marie, and Nick DeMatteo, Nicole, Alissa, and Joel Henderson, and Hannah and Max Henderson; three siblings, Kathleen Helen (deceased husband, Leonard) Kreider of Alton, Marion Rudolph "Bud" (wife, Frances) Henderson of Creve Coeur, MO, and Mary Margaret (deceased husband, Robert) Kincade of Alton; a sister-in-law, Angeles Henderson of Chicago; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following visitation. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Rev. Jeff Grant celebrant.
