

Alyce V. Baxa, 76, of Springfield, died at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at St. John’s Hospice. Alyce was born August 19, 1930 in Chicago, the daughter of Charles and Jennie Vavruska, deceased. She married Otto Baxa on April 23, 1955 at St. Mary of Celle Church in Berwyn, IL. The couple moved to Springfield in 1963 and became members of Christ the King parish. Prior to her retirement, Alyce worked at Waddell & Reed Financial Services. She is survived by her husband: Otto Baxa of Springfield; two sons: David Baxa of Milwaukee, WI and Gregory (wife, Laurie) Baxa of Houston, TX; two daughters: Patti Baxa Doughney of Dallas, TX and Cheryl Baxa of Boston, MA; four grandchildren: Jared and Megan Doughney, Emily and Gregory “Bubba” Baxa; one sister: Joanne Vrtis of West Bloomfield, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister: Bernice Parod; and a brother: Charles Vavruska. Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Christ the King Church, 1930 Barberry, Springfield with Msgr. David Lantz, celebrant. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
