

Anita Wicks Marriott, 91, of Springfield, peacefully slipped away in her sleep in the presence of family and died of natural causes complicated by dementia on May 2, 2010 at 12:30 a.m. at Concordia Village. Anita was born February 18, 1919 in Springfield, the daughter of Bonnie McCourt and Jack F. Wicks, Sr. She married Nile M. Marriott, Jr. on September 19, 1941 and he preceded her in death in 2003. Anita graduated from Springfield High School in 1937 and Brown's Business College in 1939. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Springfield, North Naples United Methodist Church in Naples, FL, and a 50 year Charter member of the King's Daughters Organization. She was also a member of Naples Wildlife Conservatory, Oakcrest Country Club, Alpha Iota Sorority-Mu Gamma Chapter and the Christian Women's Club. She was devoted to her family and friends and they always came first. She was the very best grandmother ever. She enjoyed spending time with them and had lots of fun roller skating with them when they were young, both in Naples and in Springfield. She also volunteered for the Naples Community Hospital. Anita loved all kinds of music, especially Dixie Land Jazz. She and her friends traveled to many Dixie Land Jazz festivals. She also golfed until her early 80's, loved to read when she had time and enjoyed traveling. She traveled with her friends to the Holy Land. She was known as generous, kind, self sacrificing and always ministering to those in need. She has taken care of all our family members as well as most of her friends when needed. Anita was also preceded in death by her mother, dad, and brother, Jack F. Wicks, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Julie (husband, Keith) Anderson of Carlinville; her son, William R. (wife, Trish) Marriott of Springfield; 4 granddaughters, Jennifer (husband, Chuck) Taylor of Springfield, Jill (husband, Don, Jr.) Scott of Rochester, Mindy (husband, Larry) Fontaine of Steamboat Springs, CO and Karen Gail Marriott of Springfield; two grandsons, William R. (wife, Kelly)Marriott, Jr. and Jake Marriott, both of Springfield; eight great-grandchildren; two nieces; two nephews; and several cousins. Family will receive friends from 4:30 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Chaplain Bax Maggart officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
