

Arthur J. Freeman, Jr., 83, of Springfield, went to be with the Lord on March 30, 2010 at his residence. Arthur was born on August 30, 1926 in Springfield, the son of Arthur J. and Felice Swords Freeman. He married Marilyn L. Hayes on May 8, 1954 in Carlinville. She preceded him in death January 2009. Arthur was a veteran of the United States Army and was employed in the Design Division for the State of Illinois Department of Highway for nearly 30 years. He was a member of Christ the King Parish and Knights of Columbus Council #364. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids, fishing, golfing, coin collecting and woodworking. One of his favorite places to spend time was at the family cottage on a lake in the Michigan, Upper Peninsula. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Larry and Jack Freeman; and a sister, Mary Agnes Freeman. Arthur is survived by his five children, Kathleen Freeman of Williamsville, Patrick (wife, Teresa) Freeman of Highpoint, NC, Ann (husband, Randy) Wells of Springfield, Arthur (wife, Genda) Freeman, III of Elkhart and Jean Henigman of Champaign; nine grandchildren, Christopher Howdeshell, Stefanie, Benjamin, and Jacob Freeman, Noah Freeman, Ashley Freeman, Alexis and Adeline Wells and Emily Henigman; siblings, Felice Lenz of Madison, WI, and Jerry Freeman of Riverton; and two sister-in-laws, Mary Ann Freeman of San Diego, CA, and Edna Freeman of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Christ the King Parish, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz celebrant. Burial will follow at Union Chapel Cemetery in Girard. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association Midwest Affiliate, 2008 S.
