

August "Gus" Morosi, 90, of Springfield, died at 9:35 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2008 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. August was born August 5, 1918 in Royalton, IL, the son of Nazzareno and Eda Galassi Morosi. He married Maybelle Louise Raboin in 1941. She preceded him in death in 1999. August was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the European Theater during WWII. He belonged to the Heavy Weapons Platoon of the 110th Infantry, 28th Division. Following his military service, August owned and operated Central Auto Body and Paint Shop from 1946 to 1971. He worked for the State of Illinois in the Highway Traffic Department from 1972 to 1982 when he retired. August was a member of the Eagles Club, VFW Post #10302, AmVets, the American Legion and Knights of Columbus #4175, where he was a past Grand Knight. He was a man of great faith and belonged to St. Aloysius Catholic Church. August enjoyed traveling, especially cruises, and sports. He was a fan of the New York Mets and St. Louis Rams. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Joseph Dion. He is survived by one son, Gene (wife, Patricia) Morosi of Springfield; one daughter, Arlene Flynn of Springfield; six grandchildren, Jean (husband, Kevin) Boyer of Elkhart, IN, David (wife, Susan) Wood of Mineral Point, WI, Jillane Flynn of Springfield, Michael (wife, Tina) Morosi of Kirkland, IL, Gina Morosi of Lake In The Hills, IL and Kerri (husband, Andrew) Landgrebe of Springfield; thirteen great-grandchildren, Alexander Boyer, Emily, Elizabeth and Melissa Wood, Alyssa and Abigail Flynn, Morgan and Jordan Morosi, Alexandria Merry, Brittany and Brandon Brown, and Nicholas and Zachary August Landgrebe; two brothers, Geno (wife, Virginia) Morosi of Sterling Heights, MI and Albert (wife, Lorraine) Morosi of Folsom, CA; numerous nieces and nephews; and several cousins. Family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 22, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2000 Sangamon Ave., Springfield with Rev. Mark Schulte celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Central Illinois, 610 N. 7th St., Springfield, IL 62702-5329.
