Barbara Agnes Carter

Barbara Agnes Carter, 68, of Thayer, formerly of Du Quoin (28 years), passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017 at her residence. She was born April 30, 1949 in Oakland, CA to Francis and Agnes ONeal Rockett. Barbara was preceded in death by her father, her brother, Dennis, her sister, Catherine and step father, Bill Bird. She married Larry Carter May 18, 1974. Mrs. Carter had been a board member for the village of Thayer. Barbara was past Queen and member of the Daughters of the Nile ABEBA Temple #42; she had also been active in the Thayer Senior Citizens and Thayer Citizens United.

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 43 years, Larry; sons, Daniel (Anne) Carter of Springfield. David (Charise) Carter of Thayer; step daughter, Kerry (Stacey) Maguire of Belleville; mother, Agnes Bird of Halfway, OR; grandchildren, Jessica and Darby Maguire, Tristin (Kylie) Irvine, Jillian and Addison Carter, Anna and Lane Parker; brother, Alan (Gail) Rockett of Fairfield, CA, Matthew (Sandra) Rockett of Ledyard, Connecticut; sisters, Shannon Rector and Elizabeth (Calvin) McCullough, both of Halfway, OR; sister-in-law, Sheryl Rockett, Bloomington, Indiana; several nieces and nephews.

Cremation rites were accorded by Cremation Services of Central Illinois, Chatham. Private family services were held with her Pastor, Chuck Kurfman officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to her church, The Thayer United Methodist Church, PO 51, Thayer, IL, 62689 or to the Daughters of the Nile Temple #42 in Thayer, IL, 62689.
