Barbara Rae Prior

She was born on August 4, 1937 in Joliet, IL, the daughter of the late Jack and Nettie (Qualls) Short. She married Pat Malone, Sr. and they divorced. She later married David A. Prior in Springfield and he preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 1988.

Mrs. Prior worked as a computer programmer for the State of Illinois Department of Transportation. She was former Madam President of the Ladies’ Auxiliary at the Eagle’s Club F.O.E. 437. She loved playing chicken foot dominoes, bingo, and shopping. She was known to her grandchildren as “Grandma Peachy”. She was a member of New Life Church, formerly Abundant Life Church, in Auburn, IL.

She is survived by a daughter Cindy (husband Rick) Nelson of Springfield, a son Darrin (wife Etter) Malone of Springfield, 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 2 sisters Connie (husband George) Stelle of Springfield and Debbie (husband Don) Fetters of Ohio.

Besides her parents and her husband David, she was preceded in death by 2 sons, Patrick Malone, Jr. and Mark Malone, a grandson Darrin Malone, Jr., a brother Jerry Short, and a sister Sherry Whalen.

Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield, where visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 16, 2015 from 4 to 7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015 at 10:30 am at the funeral home, with Rev. Tony Sale officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield.
