

He was born in Peoria on August 30, 1950, the son of David O. and Jacquelin (Ervin) Colvin. Barry married Carol L. Wentroble on November 3, 1973, in Pittsburgh, PA, and they shared 52 wonderful years together.
Barry proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines. He graduated from Washington High School in 1968 and earned two master’s degrees from Illinois State University, where he later taught as a professor. Barry was also an Elder and director at Lutheran High School. In spare time, he loved to read and enjoyed traveling to new places.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Barry is survived by his son, Brett (Jennifer) Colvin; grandson, John Allen Colvin; granddaughter, Charlotte Jane Colvin; and siblings, Janice (Edward) Baade of Lincoln, NE, Ronald (Chris) Colvin of Washington, IL, and Bart Colvin of Peoria, IL.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 2645 Old Jacksonville Rd., Springfield, until the time of the Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Joshua Traxel officiating.
Burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to IL Honor Flight, Tunnel to Towers, or Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and School.
