Bernadine Cecelia Mikels

Bernadine was born on August 20, 1942, in Springfield, the daughter of John and Anna (Stasukinas) Staken, and the wife of Anthony Mikels Sr.

She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and worked for SIU School of Medicine until her retirement in 2015. Bernadine was a member of the Catholic Daughters, Phi Beta Psi, Lithuanian American Club, St. Louis de Marillac Guild, and AARP. One thing superseded Bernadine’s love of social activities, her children. She devoted her life to her children, and they were her biggest source of pride and joy.

Bernadine was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and sister, Barbara Pelton.

She is survived by her children, John (Tana) Mikels, Joseph Mikels, Anthony (Ali) Mikels, Jr., and Andrea Mikels, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at Christ the King Parish, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield, IL 62704, with The Very Rev. Christopher J. House, celebrant. A private burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.

The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the Animal Protective League, 1001 Taintor Rd., Springfield, IL 62702.
