

Bernard Francis "Bernie" Quigley, 91, of Springfield, passed away at 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at St. Josephs Home. Bernie was born March 16, 1927 in Chicago, the son of John Peter and Madeleine C. Henry Quigley. He married Jean Grace Dougherty on March 15, 1951 at St. Philip Neri. Bernie was a graduate of Quigley High School in Chicago. He earned a bachelors degree from DePaul University and a masters degree from Chicago State College. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Bernie was a Regional Vocational Administrator with the State of Illinois. He retired from the Illinois State Board of Educations Adult Education Division in 1989. Bernie was awarded the First Citizen of Greater Springfield Award in 1999. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, where he was in the Choir, as well as a past member of the Land of Lincoln Barbershop Quartet. Bernie was a volunteer for many different organizations including the Knights of Columbus, St. Martin de Porres, Habitat for Humanity, and Come Share. He also served as a project advocate instructor for AARP mature driving 55 alive. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, John Quigley, Daniel Quigley, Robert Quigley, William Quigley, Thomas Quigley, and one sister, Rose Mary OToole. He is survived by his wife, Jean G. Quigley of Springfield; two sons, Dr. Jack B. (Janean) Quigley of Flagstaff, AZ and Patrick (Marie) Quigley of Springfield; daughter, Mary Ann (Morley) Peura of Springfield; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brother, Francis Quigley of Libertyville. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant.
