

Bernice Albia Melton, 91, of Springfield, died at 12:53 a.m., Friday, May 27, 2005 at St. John’s Hospital. Bernice was born August 24, 1913 the daughter of Joseph E. and Clara Neef Goulet. She married Lawrence C. Melton on April 15, 1939 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Springfield; he preceded her in death February 27, 1998. Mrs. Melton was employed by the Illinois Department of Conservation retiring in 1973. She was a member of Church of the Little Flower, Young at Heart Club and Prayer Line of Little Flower, Auxiliary Member of National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 21-80, St. Theresa Guild, Over 50 Club of Knights of Columbus Council #364 and National Association of Retired Federal Employees (N.A.R.F.). She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter: Kathleen Loviscek; three sisters: Genevieve Flesch, Clara Louise Campbell and Eleanor Nolan and one brother, Jerome Goulet. She is survived by two sons: Lawrence C. (wife, Maria) of San Diego, CA and Stephen J. (wife, Susan) Melton of Springfield; one daughter: Christine Zummo of Springfield; fifteen grandchildren; six step grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two brothers: Joseph P. and Bernard T. Goulet both of Springfield and many nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 4-7:00 Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at Church of the Little Flower with Fr. Chuck Edwards celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Hospital, Hospice Program, 800 E. Carpenter, Springfield, IL 62702.
