Bertha "Jeanne" McCarthy

Jeanne was born on September 24, 1935 in Dawson, the daughter of Merle Elmer and Lesta Eileen Bumgarner. She married her childhood sweetheart, Robert Eugene McCarthy, Sr. on October 14, 1955 in Loami. He preceded her in death on October 6, 2011.

Jeanne was a graduate of Ball Township. In her younger years, she worked as a waitress, secretary and later a service tech at Dickey-John Corporation, where she retired from. Jeanne loved country music (especially Johnny Cash), dancing, playing games, family events and cooking. She especially loved listening to family members sing and play guitars whenever the family gathered. She also enjoyed a good card game with her sister or great-grandson.

Jeanne is survived by her sons, Robert (Donna) McCarthy of Timonium, MD and Michael (Annette) McCarthy of Auburn; granddaughters, Leryn (Zack) Rector of Auburn and Aubrey (Jonny) Tarr of Loami; great-grandsons, Cash and Truitt Rector of Auburn; great-granddaughter, Vayda Tarr of Loami; sisters, Marilyn (Larry, deceased) Ratliff and Nancy (Roy, deceased) Skaggs; brothers, Gary (Cheryl) Bumgarner of Glenarm and Larry (Linda) Bumgarner of Rochester; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Butler Funeral Home – Chatham, 8855 IL Route 4, Chatham, IL. A Funeral Ceremony will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. COVID-19 guidance will be followed, requiring face coverings and limiting attendance to 50 guests at one time.

Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery. COVID-19 guidance will be followed, requiring face coverings and limiting attendance.
