Betty was born on September 5, 1927, in Mt. Sterling, Illinois, the daughter of Charles E. and Minnie (Wort) Bordenkircher. She married Robert L. Bernet on December 29, 1951, in Mt. Sterling, Illinois.
Betty graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1945 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois. Her faith and family were a very important part of her life. Betty was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church where she was involved with the Altar & Rosary Society. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready to share a laugh. Betty loved music, especially the “Big Band Sound” with Don Howard. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She always wanted to know the latest about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Minnie Bordenkircher; husband Robert Bernet; and daughter, Marilyn Sheehan.
Betty is survived by her sons, Robert M. Bernet of San Antonio, Texas, Thomas E. Bernet of Charleston, West Virginia, and Mark E. (Dianne) Bernet of Flower Mound, Texas; brother, Charles A. Bordenkircher of Palatine, Illinois; brother-in-law, Eugene Bernet, Springfield, Illinois; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation and Mass of Christian Burial: Family will receive friends on August 5th, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 North Amos Avenue, Springfield, Illinois 62702, until the time of Mass at 11 a.m., with Rev. Daniel Bergbower, celebrant.
Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois.
