Springfield, IL—Betty June Kararo, 90, of Springfield passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Mill Creek Alzheimer’s Special Care Center. Betty was born on September 19, 1928 in St. David, IL, the daughter of Emil and Cora (Tarrant) Duquanne. She married Lee Kararo on April 30, 1954 and he preceded her in death on July 10, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents and half-sister Kathleen Maloney of Pekin. She is survived by her son, Craig Kararo (Janet) of Springfield, grandsons Alexander and Evan Kararo of Springfield and several nieces and nephews.
After moving to Springfield Betty worked for the Illinois Department of Veteran Affairs. She then served as downstate office manager for the Illinois State Medical Society for 24 years before moving to the Illinois Department of Transportation's legislative office from which she retired in 1990.
Betty was an avid golfer, participating in leagues at Longbridge and Lincoln Greens, and a former member of The Rail and Edgewood C.C. She and Lee were also members of the Central Illinois Grass Hoppers golf group. She was a volunteer usher for UIS Sangamon Auditorium and belonged to the Elk's Club Auxiliary, Springfield Motor Club and Laurel United Methodist Church. Each year she participated in the American Cancer Society Sangamon County Chapter's Walk for Life and in 2012 was recognized as their longest cancer survivor.

Visitation: 9:30 A.M. until services at 11:00 A.M., on Friday, October 19th at Bisch Funeral Home, 2931 South Koke Mill Road, Springfield. Rev. Dr. Kent A. Lolling will officiate.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
