

Betty J. Nation, who was loved and cherished by her family, went to see her Heavenly Father, Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 7:00 pm. Betty was born on February 4, 1927 in Springfield, IL and was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Pearl Smith Young. She was married to Kenneth E. Nation December 11, 1947 who also preceded her in death.
Betty is survived by her loving daughter, Sherry Ann (Russell) Clay, 3 grandchildren, Gina (Bob) Nelson, Dawn (Kenny) Lilly and Daniel Tannehill, 5 great grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Tasha (Harley) Sims, Cheyenne Huff, Chase Clay-Kuehl, Caitlyn Behymer and Harley Nelson. She was expecting the birth of her 1st great-great grandchild in May, whom she could not wait to see. Betty is also survived by 1 brother, Kenny Young, and 2 sisters, Lois Cook and Norma (Ray) Friedman. Betty was preceded in death by 1 brother, Howard (June) Young, and 2 sisters, Ruby Schmidt and Janet (Jerry) Tabor.
Betty spent her years working for Sangamo Electric 1942-1947, The International Shoe Factory 1949-1964, Kresges, Sally Ward Cleaners and Springfield School District 186. She retired from District 186 after serving as a school cook for more than 20 years, working many of those years at Carl Sandburg and Jane Addams. She was an active member of Kumler United Methodist Church. She was also a member of AFSCME IMRF. Betty's greatest joy in life was spending time with her great grandchildren and looking forward to the birth of her great-great grandchild. Betty has enjoyed sharing her love of rock hunting, baking and photography with her 5 generations of family. Betty's immense love of photography will live on forever in the many photos she has passed down to her family.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd. Springfield, where visitation will be Sunday December 5, 2010 from 2:00 til 4:00 pm and where funeral services will be Monday, December 6, 2010 at 10:00 am. Rev. Sylvester Weatherall will officiate. Burial will follow in Old Salem Cemetery, west of Springfield.
