

Betty J. Schmitt of Springfield, died at 7:53 p.m. on Sunday, December 30, 2007 at Memorial Medical Center. Betty was born January 12, 1939 in Quincy, IL. The daughter of Earl and Louise Cox Bryant. She married James Schmitt on December 9, 1967 in Springfield. She was a nurse’s aid at St. John’s Hospital, and many area nursing homes. She had also been a cashier at Myers Brothers and K-Mart. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son: Steven M. Nielson; two grandsons; six brothers: Earl, Joe, Gary, and Kit Bryant, Larry and John Powell and her stepmother: Wilma Bryant. She is survived by her husband of forty years: James Schmitt; three daughters: Teresa Colvin of Springfield, Tammy Watters of Springfield, Brenda Bailey of TX; two grandsons; five granddaughters; three great grandsons; three great granddaughters; four brothers: Clyde Bryant of Quincy, Richard Powell of Missouri, Chuck Powell of VA, Roger Powell of FL; five sisters: Sue Schroder, Shelia Beath, Judy Huff all of Quincy, Linda Aldridge and Connie Bristol of CO; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following the visitation. Graveside Ceremonies will be held 12:00p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2008 at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
