Billy Lee Walters, Sr.

Billy Lee Walters, Sr., 77 of Springfield died at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at St. John’s Hospital. Billy Lee was born May 11, 1927 in Martinsville, IL., the son of Jeff and Goldie Jacob Walters, Sr. He married Dorothy Kelly on September 17, 1949 in St. Louis, MO. Billy Lee was a member of Christian County Quarter Midgets Racing Association. He retired on June 1, 1992 from the International Union of Operating Engineers 965 and 520 after 50 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Walters of Springfield, four sons: Roy (wife, Debbie) Walters of Weaubleau, MO, Billy Lee (wife, Brenda) Walters Jr., Gary (wife, Robyn) Walters and Kevin Walters all of Springfield, three daughters: Trudy Burris of Odessa, TX, Barbara (husband, James) Langley of Sherman and Deborah (husband, Kenneth) Murray of Andrew, twenty grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, two sisters: Jean (husband, Webster) Morris of Mattoon, Maxine Walters of Casey, four brothers: Jeff Walters, Jr. of Springfield, Jerry (wife, Karen) Walters of Trilla, Dean (wife, Myrna) Walters of Martinsville and John Walters of Casey and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 8, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Scott Brindley officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
