Buford R. Stanley

He was born on July 1, 1917 in Eldorado, IL, the son of the late Steven and Blanche (Bowers) Stanley. He married Thelma Shane on Nov. 14, 1939 in St. Louis, MO and she survives.

Mr. Stanley worked as a welder at Fiat Allis in Springfield. Prior to that he had worked as a coal miner. He was a member of Clearlake Church of Christ.

Besides his wife Thelma, he is survived by 4 daughters, Judy (Raymond) Witte of Owensboro, KY, Pat (Dennis) Nordike of New Berlin, IL, Donna (Don) VanHouten of Riverton, IL, and Linda (Yavuz) Gonulsen of Springfield, 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Evelyn Kluckman of Springfield and Betty Schmidt of Mesa, AZ, and 2 brothers, Lawrence Stanley of Girard, IL and Walter Stanley of Springfield. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, JoAnn Stanley and a brother, Gilbert Stanley.

Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield, IL 62711 where visitation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010 from 11 am until time of the funeral service at 1 pm. The funeral service will also be held at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Old Salem Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Oak Terrace Nursing Home or the Alzheimer’s Association.
