

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Miriam Browning, and his sister, Mary Ellen Orr.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Shirley McDonald Browning, his children, Kirk (Linda) Browning of Thornton, Co, Mark (Paula) Browning of Crete, IL, Beth (Ron) Littich of Jefferson City, MO, and Lesa (David) Hemming of Jacksonville, IL. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Christopher(Alyssa) Browning of San Diego, CA, Benjamin (Meredith) Browning of Waukegan, IL, Heather (Patrick) VanZyl of Crete, IL, Kristen (Brandon) Reynolds of Macomb, IL, Aaron (RaChelle) Littich of O’Fallon, MO, Adam Littich of Omaha, NE, Justin Hemming of Sarasota, FL, Nathan Hemming of Muenster, Germany, and 6 great-grandchildren; Zoe, Delia, and Oliver VanZyl, Taylor and Ethan Browning, and Noah Littich. He is also survived by his sister Harriet Brooks of Springfield, IL and his brother David Browning of Chambersburg, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
John served in the Navy from 1942-1945 and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1948. He taught school at Ball Township, IL, Good Hope, IL, and Perry, IL and retired from teaching after 30 years. John and Shirley also farmed at Chambersburg for 39 years. He was a faithful member, deacon, and elder at Chambersburg Christian Church. John and Shirley moved to St. Louis in 1985 and were members of Ferguson Christian Church. They retired and moved to Chatham in 2003 and are members at Southside Christian Church.
Dad greatly loved the Lord, his wife, and his family and touched countless lives with his sweet, gentle spirit.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill, Springfield, IL 62711. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on November 20, 2010 at 11 am at Chambersburg Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Chambersburg Christian Church or Southside Christian Church of Springfield.
