He was born on Dec. 3, 1924 in Belding, MI, the son of the late Herman and Elaine (Lake) Russell. He married Marie Lowe on Dec, 3, 1945 and she preceded him in death.
Mr. Russell served in the U.S. Army during the World War II era. He worked as a supervisor/foreman for Allis Chalmers Construction. He loved fishing and enjoyed hunting for the worms almost as much.
He is survived by a sister Louise (husband Ted) Noble of Greenville, MI; 2 sons, Greg Russell of Laguna Hills, CA and Gary (wife Ellen) Russell of Springfield; a granddaughter Zandra Russell of Springfield, a grandson Garrett Russell of CA, and a great-granddaughter Izabella Allen of Springfield.
Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son Roger Oyler and a brother Lyle Russell.
Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield where visitation will be held on Sunday, May 10, 2015 from 10 am until time of the funeral service at 12 Noon. The funeral service will also be held at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pleasant Plains Cemetery in Pleasant Plains, IL.
Memorials may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
