Carl H. Becker

Carl H. Becker, 81, proud father and grandfather, beloved friend, formerly of Springfield, died at his home in Largo, Florida on Apr. 5, 2007. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during WWII where he was on an LST in the South Pacific. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1950. He was an owner of the Springfield Mattress Co. for 30 years. Carl was married to Nancy M. McHugh, now Nancy Hahn of Springfield, for thirty years. He was then married to Nell Lokey of Clearwater, FL until her death in 1993. Since then he has been the loving companion of Mary Blackmon of Belleair, FL. Carl was a kind-hearted, good-natured, fun-loving guy who enjoyed jokes, golf, sports spectating and traveling. He is a former member of Illini Country Club, officer and member of the Springfield Kiwanis, and a lifetime member of Central Baptist Church where he just celebrated his 50th Builders Class reunion last summer. Survivors include two daughters: Aimee Becker Lanphere of Glenview, IL and Martha Becker Hirsch of College Station, TX; one son: John Carl Becker of Dallas, TX; one brother: Robert Becker of Springfield; companion: Mary Blackmon of Belleair, FL; and five grandchildren: Kevin, Michael and Joe Lanphere, Katie and Maddie Hirsch. The family welcomes friends to visit from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at Central Baptist Church, 501 So. 4th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremonies will be held immediately following the visitation at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Reg Mills officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
