

Carol was born on June 7, 1947, in Murfreesboro, TN, the daughter of David Baxter and Hallie (Cooper) Hipp. She married William “Bill” Leach on May 21, 1987, in Springfield, IL.
Carol grew up in Tennessee and was a 1965 graduate of Central High School in Murfreesboro. She moved to Springfield in 1979 with her family. Carol worked for the Illinois Baptist State Association for many years, as well as Building Blocks Daycare. She also worked for Edward Jones and retired from Town & Country Bank. Carol was a lifetime member of the Springfield Ceramics and Craft Club and a member of Chatham Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, baking, and entertaining friends and family on her screened-in porch. One of her most loved pastimes was traveling to see family and attend events and activities for her grandchildren. Carol was creative, loving, kind-hearted, selfless, and she will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, David Cooper.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Leach of Chatham; two sons, Justin (wife, Jamie) Leach of Hermitage, TN and William “Bill” (wife, Julie) Kendrick of Indianapolis, IN; one daughter, Angela (husband, Reid) McDowell of Godfrey; nine grandchildren, Matthew and Claire McDowell, Val Kendrick, Claire and Isabel Standley, Riley and William Leach, and Amelia and Violet Kendrick; and four siblings, Sandra (husband, Hank) Garant of Glendale, CA, Anita (husband, Tom) Baskin of Winchester, TN, Steve (wife, Sylvie) Hipp of Lascassas, TN, and Susan (husband, Gary) Clower of Manchester, TN; brothers-in-law, Ted (wife, Beverly) Leach and Dave (wife, Janet) Leach; and sister-in-law, Rosemary (husband, Bob) Leistner.
Memorial Gathering and Memorial Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Butler Funeral Home-Chatham, 8855 State Rt. 4, Chatham. A Memorial Ceremony will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Milton Bost, officiating. Illinois COVID-19 guidance will be followed, requiring face coverings.
