
Carole Maloney Fries, 86, of Virginia, Illinois, passed away on January 13, 2025 at Beardstown Health and Rehab in Beardstown, Illinois. She was born on March 15, 1938 in Springfield to Thomas A. Maloney and Marie N. Neal.
Carole married Roy “Jack” Beers in 1958 and they had 3 children: William R. “Bill” Beers (Tina) of Springfield, IL, Mary Weller (Fred) of Sparks, NV., and Stacey Alexander (Bobby) of Virginia, IL. Carole and Jack divorced in 1973. In 1983 she married the love of her life George A. Fries and he preceded her in death in 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson William B. Beers, 2 sisters: Kathryn Haggard and Rita Folder, two nephews: Mark Folder and Steve Haggard, one niece Beth Haggard and her stepson Greg Fries who preceded her in death in 2017. She is also survived by her sister Mrs. William Fishburn, Mary, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, one stepson Eric Fries (Ling), of Burtonsville, MD, several step grandchildren and her special great-grandson Dayson Lancaster of Rushville, IL. Carole and Dayson had a special relationship. She frequently joked that they were “going on a date”. They thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company and friendship.
Mrs. Fries graduated from Lanphier High School in 1956 and then attended Western Illinois University. In 1978 Carole took a job with the government and moved to the Washington, DC metropolitan area. She was an accountant in Washington, D.C. for several government agencies and ended her career working for M.A.D.D. Carole and George did volksmarching and had walked in all 50 states and 5 continents. She was an avid reader and loved going out to eat with family and friends.
Cremation rites were accorded.
