Carolyn Ann Bennett, 80, of Springfield, passed at 5:46 a.m. on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center. Carolyn was a wonderful mother, loving wife, sister and friend. Carolyn was born on July 30, 1936 in Columbus, OH, the daughter of Wallace and Genevieve Sensenbrenner Emmons. She and her husband, Larry, were married on June 15, 1956 and recently celebrated their 60th Anniversary. She was funny, strong and had a love for life that was centered around her family and friends. She was the person you wanted at your side when you needed a champion that would never stop fighting for you. She talked to her brothers and children every day. She was an expert at Facebook, staying in touch with her friends, children and grandchildren, and sharing videos and pictures of the things they loved. She liked everything you posted and she never missed a chance to tell you how beautiful you were and how much she loved you. Until her final day, she was by her husband's side, cheering him on and planning for a brighter future. Carolyn was a 1954 graduate of North High School in Columbus, OH. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence F. Bennett of Springfield; two sons, Jim (husband, Terry Vanden Hoek) of Chicago and John Bennett of Springfield; one daughter, Jeri (husband, Bob) Drummond of Wildwood, MO; three grandchildren, Bobby, Julia, and Nicholas Drummond; three siblings, Larry and David (wife, Ruth) Emmons, both of Columbus, OH, Danny (wife, Nancy) Emmons of Cheyenne, WY; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Rodney (wife, Betty) Emmons; and her sister-in-law, Alice Emmons. Visitation and Funeral: Family will receive friends on Friday, August 26th from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 12:30 p.m. at Hope Presbyterian Church, 2211 Wabash Avenue, Springfield, with Rev. Chuck Goodman and Carolyn's cousin, Rev. Ed Sensenbrenner, officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. If sending flowers, please note that Carolyn loved daisies, but found lilies depressing, because they reminded her of death. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Presbyterian Church, 2211 Wabash Avenue, Springfield, IL 62704.
