

CAROLYN SUE EVANS, of Springfield, Illinois went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 12, 2010. Ms. Evans was born July 11, 1944, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, the daughter of Vernon and Waneta (Braddy) Evans. Carolyn accepted Jesus Christ into her life as a young adult. She had a day care in her home for twenty-five years. She has worked in the nursery and children's departments in her church and was a past East Central Illinois Southern Baptist Associational Nursery Leader; She worked with the Girls in Action mission group at First Assembly of God, was active with Woman's Mission Group and Sang in the choir, and enjoyed being a Foster Mother. Carolyn worked for Department of Children and Family Services since January 1995. She graduated from Springfield Bible Institute at First Assembly of God in Springfield and has a certificate for Biblical Counseling, American Association of Christian Counseling, through Light University in Arkansas and enjoyed many others courses through AACC. She is past President of Sangamon County Chapter of the American Gold Star Mothers, Inc., past First Vice President for the Department of Illinois American Gold Star Mothers, Inc., and past officer in Woman's Aglow Fellowship in Springfield. She is an honorary life time member of American Legion Post 32 and AMVETS Post 94 which was named after her son, Gary, who died during the Persian Gulf War in January 1991. She enjoyed writing and has several pen pals across the country. Carolyn enjoyed traveling, southern gospel music, and crafts. She was enthusiastic about life and enjoyed the changing seasons of her life facing the challenges with a great faith in Jesus Christ. Her greatest enjoyment in life was serving Jesus Christ, her two children and three granddaughters. She is survived by daughter Rebecca, granddaughters Jessica, Mary Caroline and Kentara, her mother Waneta Evans of Albion, sisters Shirley Ellen Brown of Aurora, and Wilma Crask of Albion, brother, Don Evans of Wayne City, several nieces and nephews and many friends. A funeral ceremony will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 17, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield with Rev. Steve Griswold officiating. Family will receive friends following the ceremony until 8:00 p.m. The family will also receive friends at Thomason Cemetery Chapel, Wayne City, IL from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2010. Graveside ceremonies will commence at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Steve Griswold officiating.
